Introduction to our Programs
DANCE
Here at PMD unlike many others schools, we have established a curriculum for instructors to follow. Beginning with the tiny age of talented two’s and up through our professional dance levels, I have established clear and common goals amongst the faculty which allow all students to progress equally and it provides continuity in their training that is invaluable. I am particularly focused on the curriculum for the dancer’s ballet training since ballet is the foundation of all forms of dance. I have hired ballet instructors that represent a variety of techniques that I want PMD dancers to be exposed to - Vaganova/Russion - Cechetti/Italian - Royal Academy of Dance/English. And, I think PMD is the only studio between Boston and the Berkshires which has live piano accompaniment to ballet classes.
PMD has programs in Jazz, Tap, Modern, Ballet, Pointe, Variations, Lyrical, and the ever popular Hip-Hop. Besides ballet, I personally teach the youngest students of PMD, not only because they are adorable, but because they are the future of dance. It is very important that even at the tender age of two children begin to develop a love of movement and music and the empowerment of individual expression and creativity. You will really be amazed at how much a young child can learn about the world of dance by introducing them to simple movement accompanied by fun music, props and other enthusiastic children and careful nurturing instruction.
MUSIC & VOICE
The core of the music program is based on private instruction in piano, voice, string and wind instruments. I have over 15 highly qualified teachers, each offering 30-minute classes in 12 week sessions. PMD's popular group classes for the youngest children are Do-Re-Mi for grades K-2 and Sing-Sing-Sing for grades 3-6. Recitals are held in our own theatre and performance area.
THEATRE
The theatre program runs year-round, providing drama workshops and performance opportunities through "Spotlight Theatre". We offer programs for grades K-2 and 3-6, and our Teen Rep Theatre for the older student. This summer we have four 2-week "Spotlight Theatre" camps for 8-14 year olds.
