Private Piano & Voice / Do-Re-Mi (Grades K-2) / Sing-Sing-Sing (Grades 3-6)
Private instruction is offered in piano and voice in 30 and 45-minute classes. The year is broken up into 3 – 12 week sessions. PMD’s popular group singing classes for the youngest children are Do Re Mi for grades K-2 and Sing Sing Sing for grades 3-6. Music recitals are held in our own performance area.
Do Re Mi
Do Re Mi is a fun group music/voice lesson for children in grades kindergarten through second grade. It is a weekly one-hour lesson taught by Erin Conley. The music used for this class will consist of standard repertoire (folksongs and traditional children's songs). The following is a list of the objectives for this class.
- Students will learn to keep steady beats, the foundation of rhythm. The class engages in rhythmic chants as well as practicing songs in order to build this skill.
- Students will learn to understand and maintain tonal melodies.
- Students will build memorization skills when preparing for performances.
- Students will learn to appreciate and express interpretation of music, which develops an important outlet for self-expression.
- Students will do basic movement to develop coordination of song and dance.
- Students will develop their confidence and social skills.
- Students will develop an appreciation and love of music.
Sing Sing Sing
Sing Sing Sing is a fun group music/voice lesson for children in grades three through six. It is a weekly one-hour lesson taught by Erin Conley. The students at this level will learn standard repertoire of many genres. The following is a list of objectives for this class.
- Students will learn basic music theory, i.e. pitch, syllables and note names.
- Students will learn basic rhythm by practicing different melodies, rhythmic chants and games with rhythm emphasis.
- Students will gain an overall understanding of how music is laid out. Sheet music will be used to teach repertoire (instead of lyric sheets) and Erin will explain the layout in the music.
- Students will develop knowledge of interpretation of music through discussion of text and meaning of different pieces and expressing their thoughts during performance.
- Students will build confidence singing with a group and also on an individual level.
- Students will receive basic movement exercises to aid with rhythm coordination and to keep class creative.
- Students will gain a true appreciation and love of music.
Youth Choir
Youth Choir is a class for a seasoned young musician ages approximately 10 – 16 yrs
with a minimum of one year vocal training. Students must be able to take direction (listen and respond appropriately), harmonize, sing well, and enjoy performing choral pieces. We will have several performances at PMD - Christmas and late spring and more tba. The class will focus on refining music reading skills, learning new choral warm up exercises to train the ear and voice, and learning repertoire in a second language.
